Programs across the country are gearing up for Week of the Young Child, but do you really know what it is?
Week of the Young Child began in 1971 as an initiative by the National Association
for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to bring public attention to the
importance of early childhood. Since
then the idea has blossomed and grown with many areas and program creating
their own ways to celebrate.
Today we know more than ever before the importance of children's earliest years in shaping their learning and development. Yet, never before have the needs of young children and their families been more pressing. The Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize that children's opportunities are our responsibilities, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment---at home, at child care, at school, and in the community---that will promote their early learning.
This year’s theme from NAEYC is “Celebrating our Youngest
Learners” and will officially run the week of April 12-18, 2015. Along with the overall theme, NAEYC has
provided daily themes for your celebratory inspiration. They are:
April 13: Music Monday
April 14: Taco Tuesday
April 15: Work Together Wednesday
April 16: Artsy Thursday
April 17: Family Friday
Here at KAEYC, we want to hear about how you are celebrating
across the state! Leave a comment with
something that you will do in your program or community during this year’s Week
of the Young Child!
